Lemon Ginger Turmeric Tea
Lemons are high in vitamin C which supports your immune system (and can lower cholesterol!). Ginger has been used in traditional medicine to treat digestive issues, relieve cold symptoms, and fight infections. Turmeric is also a traditional medicine that has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and increases the effectiveness of antioxidants (like those in ginger).
When lemon, ginger, and turmeric are combined, they create a potent herbal medicine that supports your immune system, boosts mental function, supports heart health, and relieves musculoskeletal pain.

Bone Broth with Veggies, Herbs & Garlic
Bone broth is one of my favorite foods to strengthen your immune system. It’s loaded with nutrients that heal illness and keep you from getting sick in the first place. When you add antioxidant-rich veggies, herbs and garlic, it becomes the only thing your body needs when it’s sick!
It has high-quality protein, fat, carbs, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that all work together to support your body – whether you’re sick or trying to avoid getting sick.
Powerhouse Bone Broth
This bone broth is slow-simmered to extract all the healing nutrients from the bones. Then antioxidant-rich veggies and herbs are added to maximize the healing powers of this golden broth. Drink when you're sick to keep up your strength and heal, or drink in place of a snack for a powerful nutrient boost any time of year.
Ingredients
- 1 Chicken Carcass
- 2-4 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 Gallon Water + extra
- 2 Carrots roughly chopped
- 2 Ribs Celery roughly chopped
- 1 Handful Fresh Parsley roughly chopped
- 4 cloves Garlic peeled and minced
- 1 Tbsp Sea Salt or to taste
Instructions
-
Place chicken carcass in a large stock pot and add enough water to cover it – about 1 gallon.
-
Add 2-4 Tbsp apple cider vinegar then let sit for 30 minutes. The vinegar helps soften the bones to better extract the nutrients. You won't be able to taste it at all when the broth is done!
-
Cover the pot and bring to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer.
-
Every 20 minutes or so for the first hour, check the broth. If it has a buildup of frothy foam on the surface, use a spoon to skim the froth off. The froth will make your broth taste bitter. Usually, organic, free-range chicken carcasses produce much less froth than factory-raised chickens.
-
Once the carcass is no longer producing froth, add the chopped carrots and celery.
-
Then cover on and leave the pot alone for the next day. You may check the water level and add water as needed so you'll have 1 gallon of broth when you're done.
-
During the last 30 minutes of cooking, add the parsley, garlic and salt.
-
After 24 hours, take the pot off the heat and remove the lid and allow it to cool.
-
Use a collander to remove the large pieces of carcass and veggies and discard them.
-
Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain the broth. Then package in 2-4 cup portions in freezer-safe jars or bags.
-
The broth is good for 4 days refrigerated, or several months frozen.
Recipe Notes
I make my family a roast chicken for dinner anytime we need to stock up on bone broth. Two of my favorite recipes are: Spatchcock Chicken with Potatoes, Asparagus and Lemon and Lemon and Thyme Roast Chicken.
I use this amazing 12 quart Stainless Steel pasta/steamer set for making my bone broth. The large colander pot fits inside the main pot which makes lifting the carcass and veggies out super easy when the broth is done!
Spicy Honey Cider Home Remedy
I have been using this Home Remedy from Nancy Vienneau for years. It works so much better than any over the counter drug I have ever tried.
Every ingredient works to boost your immune system and soothe the symptoms of a head cold. It works especially well to clear sinuses, reduce mucus production, and ease nasty coughs.
Because this one is fairly spicy, I don’t use it for my kids. It also contains honey which should never be given to children under one year old.
Maty’s Cough Syrup
Maty’s Children’s Mucus Cough Syrup is the drug-free cough syrup I discovered just this season for my kids. It is AMAZING! Personally, I think it tastes good, but my kids don’t agree. But they still take it because within minutes, their stuffy noses and nasty coughs are better.
Maty’s also makes a Nighttime Cough Syrup which really helps the kids stay asleep so they get the rest they need for their bodies to heal.
As much as I love this product, I also like having the option of homemade home remedies. You know, for those rare occasions like now when it’s hard to find supplies in stores. Mommypotamus has a great homemade version of this cough syrup.
Vitamin D & Zinc
I always keep us stocked on these two vitamins because they play such a major role in supporting our immune systems.
Low levels of vitamin D are linked to more frequent colds, flus, and infections as well as worsening of autoimmune diseases. Vitamin D is a key nutrient that keeps the immune system balanced and functioning as it should.
Zinc also supports the immune system and is critical for the body to be able to heal. Taking zinc may decrease the duration and intensity of upper respiratory illness, as well as speed healing from wounds or skin disorders!
