It’s Christmas this week so I’m breaking out all our traditional Christmas favorites!
In New Mexico, Red Chile Posole and Tamales are served on Christmas Eve. But, in my family, we don’t get too picky about when they’re served since we’ll gladly gobble them up all week!
Somewhere along the way, it became tradition in my family to have spaghetti for Christmas Dinner so we have continued that this year. We’re also adding our new tradition of enjoying s’mores and hot cocoa around a crackling fire on Christmas Eve!
Go Ahead and Eat the Cookies!
You’ll probably notice that ALL of the snacks are sweet treats. That’s because it’s Christmas and we turn making cookies into a really special family affair. Here’s an amazing article from Dr. John Berardi about why non-health foods should still have a place in our homes. Give it a read before you go feeling guilty about indulging this holiday season!
Our Sourdough Tradition
On any special occasion, we love our Sourdough Pancakes made from our pet Sourdough Starter. I say “pet” because it is a living organism that we feed and we even take it whenever we travel so it can “meet” the local yeasts! If you don’t have your own sourdough starter, it’s a really cool thing to do with your family. Sourdough starters can be passed down generation to generation and every starter is different. Depending on where you take them and what they’re exposed to, they develop their very own unique flavor. King Arthur has a great article on starting and caring for your own sourdough starter.
